Link 8 Jan 5 notes Videogame companies in support of SOPA.»

What the hell, how can THIS many videogame companies support SOPA???

Some background, for anyone who needs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act

I can get behind the sentiment of wanting content protected and not stolen, but the backlash will really be on forums, youtube, etsy, deviantart and any sites where someone wants to create modest fan-material or just use references to the copyrighted works in passing. Why? What does that serve? If I want to buy someone’s diy-zelda sticker on etsy, why can’t I? I’m paying them just for the time they took to do it.

Furthermore, the creation of so focused an INHIBITING law is never healthy for the rights of anyone. Especially when aimed at the internet but crafted by politicians, some of whom couldn’t be more clueless about what they’re doing beyond “stealing… bad. money… good!”  They’re in over their heads. If piracy is theft, try it as theft. Don’t reinvent the wheel to do this though.  And these guys are just asking to revamp the argument that we should censor videogames or their sales for “protection”.

Anyway, it’s unconstitutional. It’s already been established that creative expression online is covered by the first amendment and this would step on that a bit. Screw SOPA. Long live etsy.
